the nuclear family return with the follow-up to the summer’s after effects ep - another four tracks of deeper electronics for discerning djs and dancers. the title cut is a throwback to the days when we made music in our bedrooms with whatever cheap-ass drum machines and synths we could lay our hands on, and we have invited one of our favourite artists, atlantas moon b, to lend his magic touch to a remix on the flip, we drift into dubbier climes before dropping the tempo to close things out on a spaced-out electro tip.

following the black aroma releases, blend it! records and label owner twice are back with a brand new project filled with contemporary dancefloor heaters: collective blends vol. 1. while ‘steel’ and ‘hovo’ on side a will find the likes of house and electronic heads, ‘speedboat’ and ‘metronome’ on side b drop the tempo but keep it soulful and groovy, featuring the multi-talented erik rico on vocals (you may know him from collabs with ron trent, dj spinna, aybee and many more). difficult to categorize, fresh and full of personality, this first release of the series will make you hungry for more.

musicalitys second release is a remake of the gil scott heron b-side *the klan*, featuring allan barnes formerly of the blackbyrds, and craig huckaby. the a-side has a wind and keys driven retro-funkiness, aided by latin percussion. kemeticjusts remix on the b glues everything together into a slightly faster house-tempo, increasing the propulsion, and likely causing lively dancing to break out. it was mixed by pirahnahead at united sound systems, and mastered by the legendary herb powers. musicality is the brainchild of producer/dj seth dedikate carter.

every wph summer brings us…the wph summer special! well, some summer specials have been known to be released in the winter, with huge acclaim from the cold masses who had something to warm their hearts and souls to. so we figured we would release another summer special in the winter… the mysterious-but-not-really harry baldi kicks things off with ‘something for your mind’, a sample-ridden up tempo house workout that will also go down a treat on techno floors. solid yamaha bass anyone? up next we introduce a new belgian member to the wph family. dj miclem has quietly been working on his music and now it’s time to let some of it out of the studio and onto your decks. this is the vintage wph sound that got us on the map!

beacons ep, the debut release on tru thoughts from rising producer werkha, who was snapped up by the label in late 2013 having been championed by quantic and gilles peterson. in another gold seal of approval from on high, werkha has just been confirmed as the support act for bonobo on the leftfield luminarys european tour.

two sides from our favorite early 80s lover lew kirton. its the first time the sexy soul mans two track have been 45! both solid tried and tested lp tracks, but who wants to spin lps. 15 years of doing a club every week and you end up with some secret weapons, *something special* was always a big tempo change record. everyone is tired from dancing for two hours to fast disco, modern and deepfunk and without warning you just drop this badboy in take it down a notch and let the dry riding commence, solid. on the flip is lews straight up jack of gloria gaynors *i will survive*, pure shameless anthemic dancefloor disco smasher that i have championed for years, that catchy guitar line over lews big voice never tires.

release no.4 for the mysterious dense & pika. >who cares wins< is another slice of grimey warehouse rawness, the kinetic drums and synths combing for a peak time cacophony of sound. flipsides >morse mode< ups the tempo whilst still keeping the duos signature rough vibe whilst >crackling< rounds things off nicely, more streamlined than the previous tracks with a touch of dub techno thrown in for good measure.

a truly essential piece of early detroit techno history here, octave ones original white label octivation ep from 1990 has long been a sought after and coveted slab of wax. this 5 track journey charts the burden brothers mood from sinister, spacey, acidic techno jams (sonic fusion) to deeper, more melancholic mid-tempo cuts (nicolette) and along the way manages to usher in a new wave of detroit techno sounds.

off the back of the success of audens first hotflush ep, the enigmatic alias returns to scubas label with another hard hitting four-tracker, wall to wall. lock in throws you in headfirst - fast-paced drum loops layered with slices of jarring techno and a driving bassline that would be welcomed on the darkest dancefloors. utopian, initially a more languid cut, juxtaposes an almost cerebral landscape with hard hitting percussion, only allowing the listener a short breather before hurtling back in with perisheds swirling synths and trippy electronic jabs. ending on xirox, auden crafts a slightly more down-tempo cut, boasting a catchy groove that only gets better with each listen. whoever auden may or may not be, one thing is for certain – hes carving his place deep in technos panorama.

the second of the three vinyl eps featuring tracks from perc trax’s ‘slowly exploding’ compilation groups together three of the label’s main artists and closes with a producer making his perc trax debut. the a1 slot goes to label boss perc, whose ‘hyperlink’ builds on the sound of the dancefloor tracks of his last album with a huge kick giving way to swooping 8-bit chords whilst sawf’s ‘goves’, already tried and tested by perc over the last few months is an unrelenting breakbeat monster. on the b-side truss delivers one of the stand-out tracks of this series, with the surgeon supported analogue juggernaut that is ‘brockweir. closing things off is drvg cvltvre, who lowers the tempo but not the intensity with one of his trademark 303 workouts.

the third release from wavefreform again comes to us from the east, and this time around it marks a reformation of sound for both the label and the artist. half of the long-running georgian duo greenbeam & leon, boyd schidt is a producer with over a decade of work already under his belt whose first releases emerged in 2007. as a solo artist, his career dates to 2010 with digital releases on georgia’s front rec, fvf records, and emote music, and a track on the new vinyl compilation from studio r°. with the hard, broken kick pattern, elevated tempo, and nods to electro, the a-side ‘phantom’, a collaboration with subex, is a change of pace for the artist and the hardest thing yet to emerge from wavereform. dubwise use of effects shows the same hands still at work, but the sound elements, granulated blasts of static and drop-based structure of the track hold strong parallels to the rejuvenated techno sound currently emerging from the uk. the b-side, ‘structure’, recalls the previous work of the artist: subtle, building dub techno rich in detail and with the dancefloor firmly in mind. there is clear experience at work here with his deliberate deployment and manipulation of elements as the track struts along while enveloping the listener in its smaller details. as it pauses and takes an extended breakdown, the details rush forwards, but it finds renewed force to power itself to the close. coming in this case from an established producer with a long history, this kind of control is not surprising, but it is more indication of the riches of the east that have yet to be discovered by audiences worldwide.

two decades ep sees london producer missing join the fold for the fourth installment of five folds mandate: releasing quality dance music free from genre and tempo constraints. hailing from the heady days of the uk jungle scene circa 94, followed by a host of releases as one half of the breaks duo c83 throughout the noughties, missing re-emerges on the scene with four dancefloor fillers spanning uk bass house, garage/ jungle grooves and vocal deep house.

relax your body is a killer slice of narcotic, mid-tempo italian heaviness from way back in the late 80s. coming out on italys full time label, an italo disco imprint that embraced the burgeoning house scene in italy, and finding favor across europe and the uk with djs like andrew weatherall, its klf sampling groove and spoken, authoritative, mantra-like lyrics no doubt sound tracked some of the headiest moments in the corners of darkened, dry ice filled dance-floors throughout 1989 and beyond.

austere make a welcome with a various artists four tracker. featuring four varied cuts ranging from techno tinged house to bass heavy beatdown! life recorder kicks things off in his own unique style which never disappoints. next up is arnheim, a newcomer with a very mature sounding jazzy house number. gradul lashton takes things back into house territory with an infectious 303 laden groove. finally, fat dog comes and drops the tempo and the bottom end with a sublime track to finish.

some low down, dirty cosmic boogie-funk here from 1977 on salsoul records. destroyers were a one off project from nyc whose back catalog includes only these 2 super rare and sublime examples of down-tempo space disco. both cuts are the perfect late night soundtrack to getting down in the darkest corners of the club, perfectly produced, super funky and with solid relentless grooves that go on and on.

returning to his original home for this ep, it represents yet another left turn on the ukkonen musical path. the man himself says: *once again i want to change direction a little, whilst still keeping all the things i love in there - the polyrhythms, phasing loops, ambiguous timings and so on* however this set sees the tempo looser than before. we are not sure if post-techno actually ever happened, but maybe post-discotronica is, er, in the post. anyway, we liked the tracks so much that we once again went the extra mile with the physical product - a clear and white marbled thing of beauty, cut to 10 inch size in a 12 inch pressing.

following eomac’s debut album “spectre” on killekill, released earlier this year, here come remixes of the three most outstanding track sof the album. tommy four seven picked the title track spectre, taking away some of the dense texture of the original, speeding it up a bit and adding some straight-forward percussion to turn the original into a big anthem for the mellow moments on the dancefloor. lars stöwe aka anstam is using his anno stamm-alias to rip the distorted bassline of the grimey su riddim out and add some playful bassline variations and some serious 808 business to it to turn it into a peaktime banger with lots of chicago flavour. and do what they do best and turn shell of dark into a half-tempo stomper that after a while breaks up to a devastating weapon of distorted drums and melodies.

sam kdc returns with perhaps his most unique release to date. four tracks that well and truly blur the lines between many genres, while keeping the tempo steady at 85/170 bpm. immolate kicks off proceedings, with its ethnic vocal chant and tripping kick drums. eerie vibes from start to finish. moving on to the frantic navigation to nowhere, which opens with an ominous arp and frenetic kick drums build up to an uneasy acid lead. flip side opens with vessel, which keeps the atmosphere dark and introduces techno sensibilities to the fold. finally, purgatory wraps things up with yet another frenzied climax. the order & the entity is a rewarding listen offering something truly unique. we guarantee you will not have heard music like this anywhere else!

fantastic four track album sampler from jay haze & esb’s forthcoming ‘finding oriya’ album released this november on leftroom. philadelphia-born producer jay haze has carved out quite the career for himself over the past decade, having headed up the successful tuning spork and contexterrior imprints, as well as operating under his fuckpony pseudonym which has seen him unveil material for the likes of get physical, cocoon and bpitch. here we see haze pair up with esb (electric sound broadcast) aka elan benaroch, notably known for his work with canada’s deepen sound, to deliver a long player for the leftroom label. finding oriya is the musical culmination of the journey towards fatherhood for haze, here we see haze & elan explore a variety or ethereal, mind-bending and profound textures to create an intelligent, understated and charming collection. from the electronic beauty of finding oriya, the dropped-tempo nu-disco tinged feel of founded in you, through to the entrancing feel of friday always remembers, ands the mid-tempo magic of cant keep giving in, this eclectic four track sampler is a great introduction to the eagerly anticipated album.

deep, dark and instinctive techno/ rhythmic/ industrial/ drone music from manchester uk, are the words that can be found to describe the music of casual violence.. its safe to say that they picture the painting discovered in this new ep. expression unrelated is made up of four tracks as good as they are varied.. on the a side theres burn it all down , pure quality techno 4/4, dark and fleshy, the perfect bullet to hypnotise the dance floor in a few seconds.. youth horde, an interlude/break, deep aquifer on a down tempo beat, which rails in this a side beautifully. on the b side, the track who gave his name to the ep, expression unrelated is a track as dark as it is rhythmic. a broken devasted beat, over 9 minutes of insanity.. sensitive souls beware. we finish off with an outro/intro, where long and hypnotic strings interlace.. as already stated, pure drone music from manchester.

the original, with a well-constructed bassline incorporates a warm up melody that begins to set the tone for the night ahead. each layer is distinct as the track begins to build itself right to its crescendo when each of those individual layers collectively come together. you can distinctly hear the 80 s like synths that are cleverly inserted into the track which are highlighted by the female vocal samples. the grittier elements add a touch of darkness and instantly transport you to a warehouse club with an intimate atmosphere. the remix, done by the widely loved tech-house duo pleasurekraft jack up the tempo a notch, and add a bouncy groove to the track. where the original brought out a darker side, the remix is more upbeat and settles in well for a peak hour set. bringing that crisp bassline to the fore, and tuning out the melodies to make them a tad subtler it showcases a more tech-house version of the original. there s an added element a slightly more haunted vibe which is coupled together with those gritty and harder elements. all i can conclude is what a tech-house bomb this is from the highly talented pleasurekraft. they always manage to bring something new and unique to every single track they ve ever remixed which truly shows their remarkability as consistently good producers.

ronald burrell s second release as equation on nu-groove is as deep as it gets. we re talking late night nyc back room deepness, often imitated but never bettered. -i ll say a prayer 4 u- is the lead track here, a sublime longing synth groove with a nagging bassline and crisp rimshots, a total -under the radar- anthem straight out of new york city circa 1991 and engineered by the equally as legendary bobby konders, a real undercover gem. the other two cuts on the ep drive further into the night, -domm domm, yeah mm hmm- is another dope basement groove, rocking some classic burrell flavours, and -my life- is a real down-tempo piece that reappropriates the roy ayers classic -my life in the sunshine- while giving it a real -100 bpm house- swing, don t snooze... all in all this is another classic release from the nu-groove vaults, re-mastered and re-pressed here for the first time in conjunction with nu-groove records and the burrell brothers. essential.

mellow mellow right on return with two splendid re-edits of much sought after boogie and modern soul classics. flowers for real is a midtempo killer that has filled dance floors across the globe for the past thirty years with its rich soaked strings and warm hearted lead vocal, while the flip features the in demand up-tempo killer dance your blues away by ivan neville. both re-edits are now exclusively available on pink vinyl for discerning connoisseurs.

fernandos debut for leng was the universally well received mid-tempo monster *blue impala*. now he is back with yet another hypnotic bass heavy workout. *giant desert* takes the same low slung approach with some heavy guitar work from fiorucci. this is really is chugging music at its best, with flashes of vocal, analog synths and a dirty rock guitar combining to keep that head nodding. the extended dub allows fiorucci more space to hit the groove and the guitar work becomes epic.

scubas phenix triptych reveals its final panel. a bite-size story in and of itself, and a fitting end-part to the greater sum, 3 feels like the latest acme of a diverse career. this is traditional beginning-middle-end story-telling: silence s call-and-response foretells of a blue funk ahead - funk in the figurative - as nineteen eighty transposes old chicago into an ad rem context. the disquiet continues on the other side, with plateaus exacting techno pulse underscoring astral synth work. tempo and temperature are pushed to an extent worthy of the resolution fade provides with its informal pace, acoustic disposition and celestial chimes

liverpool-based producer bantam lions has long been part of the scenery records family, helping label boss asok launch the imprint with 2012s one to one ep. here he returns with his third 12 inch for the label. lead cut *recollections* is particularly good, delivering a deep and attractive fusion of fuzzy analogue warm, dreamy melodies and intoxicating chords. he ups the tempo further on *many years later*. which layers dubbed-out chords and swirling textures over an energy-packed techno groove. the accompanying remixes are pretty tasty, too, with the cyclist particularly impressing with his detroit techno-goes-lo-fi interpretation of *recollections*. that said, the dreamy, new age-influenced downtempo take from mood hut regular cloudface is pretty darn good, too.

ovums 20th birthday celebrations continues with the debut of tuccillo tuccillo has been a producer/dj for longer than 15 years being a self-taught virtuoso of the electronic sound. originally from italy, he established himself in ibiza a few years ago. he stood out with his open format sound, playing house, techno, deep house, down tempo and balearic.

at the 2014 sxsw festival in austin, texas, bacardi turned the movements of 100.000 wild bats into an exclusive music track. using bespoke motion tracking technology, the team used the swarming of the bats to trigger unique beats and mix the tracks tone and tempo as they flew. this limited vinyl pressing of 200 copies on 180 gram vinyl features three craig richards remixs of that track

rothmans is back with there 7th release and this time they pay homage to german playmaker paul breitner . the ep comes in the form of rising manchester producer ste spandex , fresh off the back of his remix of coyote our on rothmans 6 , and has been recorded 100% live on analogue eqiupment , not a computer in sight !!!! . the ep finds rothmans taking a slightly different and more up tempo vibe to it but still retains the psychadelic nu disco feel of many of there earlier releases. spandex has had a little help from his friends in the form of kickin pigeon and metrodome , both fresh out of the manchester underground. this is rothmans first all manchester release and sees them really cemeting the label in there surroundings.

brand new label dusty donuts delivers two remixed soul stompers courtesy of londons jim sharp. side a sees betty wrights classic *clean up woman* get treated with a healthy dose of brooklyn flavour, moving the tempo up without losing the original classic feel. side b is a horned up, funked up retake of blue boys sampling of marlena shaws *woman of the ghetto* with a hip hop feel.

following the success of the digital release of sleazy mcqueens *you know how ep*, upstart label, cvmr were compelled to press the remixes to vinyl. the proceedings open in superb style thanks to the revenges live dub. a bass heavy tool with equal parts classic house and disco, with a touch of arthur baker-style drums. on a2, sleazy mcqueens space coast take things to the basement with the help of romano arcaini (latenight society), warm rhodes, live bass and an absolute drum-break-freakout add a decidedly different dub flavor to the package. b/w compost blacks main man kasper bjorke offers his acid tinged interpretation, driven by a gritty saw-wave bass hook, rolling snare hits, wanderings arps and crunchy drums, a simply stunning piece of music as expected from the undeniably talented copenhagen born producer. closing out the remix ep, cvmr in-house producer, century strips back the vibe to a dropped tempo, emotive workout fuelled be heavily reverberated piano chords, echoing vocal lines and a general chuggy, low-slung vibe throughout.

manchester artist belly is back with his second ep of 2014 released through his new inprint belly dance and this time he is joined by east end soul vocalist shona carmen & one half of asphodells tiimothy j fairplay on the remix. the second ep see s belly up the pace slightly from his inagural release moving slightly away of the slow beat of tracks like dark autumn and farewell and embark on a sligtly more up tempo , swing style bordering on the style of machine drum. the first track control is a hazy club track with strong vocals from both belly & shona backed up by drum and bass beats which is followed by vocal heavy space beats in the form of zu . on the flip side we see the real inpact of shona carmen with a clubtrack loaded with summer vibes called painting . the vocals are soulfull and beautiful with a swing tempo and drum patterns that lift throughout. this is followed by timothy j fairplay bringing in his own take on 90 s chicago garage music with a banging clubtrack remix of dark autumn off of belly dance 001.

the supremely talent william burnett makes a belated return to emotional response, and this time he s got brooklyn-based studio pal john beall in tow. those who enjoyed the duo s release on the l.i.e.s. white label series should lap up shimmer. it hits hard from the off, with -snaker charmer- delivering a velvet-clad punch to the guts. it s techno right from the top drawer, with darting electronics and drawn out pads riding a thunderous groove. the title track is impressive, too, with surging electronics and throbbing synths riding a techno-tempo groove crafted out of an old hardcore breakbeat. there s some more considered fare on offer, too, with the shimmering ambience of -hold me take me leave me- completing a superb package.

bossmusik is back, presenting new stockholm duo subdued kamel. helgrillad kamel / studsande kamel ep further defines the sound of bossmusik: rolling trax with attitude, aptly focusing on forward and upward motion through percussive drive and atmosphere. helgrillad kamel is the roller track with high tempo, multiple kick drums and a playful collage of sound textures. studsande kamel is the stomper, keeping feet planted to the ground with deep bass and a powerful snare, aiming heads to the sky with intriguing build-up and a backdrop of propelling resonance.

following 2013s sparse, beautiful another, a busy sxsw, and a vinyl reissue of their first two albums, test & recognise represents the next chapter for seekae. bitter, belligerent and confessional, this track is punctuated by up tempo 90s industrial beats generated by a vintage drum machine emulator. it will be released in conjunction with the announce of their third album the worry, and pressed on a limited 12inch with remixes from sydneys cassius select, plus label mates flume and howls. the vinyl ep includes a download code.

this debut release from the darkest pumpkin offers mid tempo funk and grooves by the way of techno arpeggios & soulful vocal samples all served on a dance floor pulse. on wax only for the forseeable future.

nice price deal !!! next up on the skudge white offshoot is swedish producer and autodidakt records label head daniel andréasson. here andréasson follows suit and unleashes four strictly analogue cuts, each with a different twist.
the pacey 130bpm *ble3* leads offs, revolving around some catchy melodic interplay whereas the tempo dips on *dither24* for a sluggish exercise complete with backpedals and ricocheting stabs. *whats up* is another cut spat straight out of the machines and dipped in acid whilst *shape%07* is a battery of analogue drums that will have you in knots.

attic music announces its new vinyl series “almost there”. a trip starting from dark-ambient and experimental techno through new, forward-looking soundscapes. first episode is signed by mace., young talented artist from padova (it), already out on further and eclipse, presenting us a new crepuscular slow-tempo masterpiece. on the b side a proper dark techno remix by fabrizio lapiana.

medical records presents two of the most striking and iconic reissues in its catalog. the lp though 2 years after since the accident continues to carry the torch illustrating the evolving transition between experimental structure and loops into the catchy pop hooks that would later define such releases as rotund for success. this lp seems to move slightly into darker territory in general with its synth textures and slower tempo tracks but overall has a nice continuation feel from since the accident yet with obvious technological evolutions.
